Cosmetic gynaecology addresses functional and appearance-related changes in the genital area that follow childbirth and advancing age. The procedures under this heading are not recommended to everyone; each is considered individually on the basis of the symptom and the examination findings.
Reasons women attend
- A sense of laxity and functional complaints after childbirth
- Discomfort when dressing or walking due to enlarged labia
- Dryness and pain during intercourse after the menopause
- Scarring or distortion following childbirth or a previous tear
- Concerns about colour and appearance
How the assessment is made
The true source of the complaint is investigated first. Very often an underlying condition is found — infection, a skin disorder, thinning of tissue after the menopause or pelvic floor weakness — each with its own treatment, which then takes priority.
Expectations are discussed openly. Good medicine is not about promising a result; it is about explaining honestly what is possible, what is not, and what the risks are.
